Hi, Sahabat Elempung, Let me tell you about My Teacher.
Belia bernama Prof.Chitaru Kawasaki. Namun di sekolah ku beliau sering dipanggil dengan sebutan ‘Mbah Kakung’. Lahir di Hiroshima 1938. Belajar jurusan sculpture di Kyoto City College Of Art 1957. Menyelesaikan studi di jurusan sculpture Kyoto City College Of Art dilanjutkan ke Pasca Sarjana jurusan sculpture di Kyoto City University of Art (1962).
Selain itu, beliau juga belajar seni patung pada Shindo Shuji sebelum akhirnya menyelesaikan studi di universitas yang sama dan masuk ke daerah penghasil gerabah Shigaraki dan memulai karir sebagai seniman.
Sejak 1979 beliau mulai aktif mengajar di bidang keramik Fakultas Seni, Kyoto Seika University, Junior College Perfektur Shiga,Kyoto Industrial Art Fiber,Kyoto City College of Art, guru besar di fakultas Seni Kyoto Seika University dan dosen kehormatan di Kyoto Seika University.
Kegiatan sebagai seniman dilakukannya sejak tahun 1960 dan berawal dengan karya seni patungnya (sculpture) dalam pameran di KOODOO BIJUTSU KYOOKAI salah seorang penggagas Japan Modern Figurative Arts Exhibition Shigaraki, pameran Gerabah Internasional China-Jepang dan Pameran Cangkir Internasional Kanazawa.
Beragam kegiatan yang khususya terkait dengan Seni Patung terus dilakoninya hampir setiap hari hingga saat ini. Prof. Kawasaki mengadakan pembicaraan dengan bupati Klaten dan pemilik yayasan Titian Foundation tentang pendirian SMK jurusan Seni Kerajinan. Kemudian diberi kedudukan dengan posisi Super adviser dengan wewenang yaitu semua yang terkait dengan kurikulum seperti keperluan pendirian SMK, tujuan pendirian, materi pendidikan, cara mendidik dll. Kemudian dimulai dengan perencanaan pendirian dan fasilitas yang dibutuhkan. Penerimaan siswa SMK N 1 ROTA BAYAT dimulai pada bulan Juli 2009.
Selain yang tersebut di atas, masih ada sekitar 30 pameran di beberapa wilayah di Jepang, Australia, Korea dan Indonesia. Setelah memasuki masa pensiun dari Kyoto Seika University pada bulan Maret 2008, Professor Kawasaki Chitaru fokus pada pendirian sekolah menengah kejuruan Seni di Indonesia. Sebagai perwujudan rasa terimakasih, pencapaiannya selama ini, dan bentuk penghormatannya kepada Indonesia, Kawasaki telah menggelar berbagai macam karya dalam pameran ini.
Aku merasa sangat bangga memiliki Sensei seperti beliau, memiliki banyak pengalaman mengenai duania seni terutama seni Keramik. Dan berkat beliau juga lah, pada akhirnya saat ini aku dibawa ke Jepang untuk mengikuti program Cultural Activities, mempelajari tentang keramik di salah satu kota kerajinan keramik di Jepang berlokasi di Nagano, Koka-shi, Shiga-ken, Jepang.
